A pair of Harris Hawks.
1st Tusses Bridge

From Tusses Bridge I can catch a bus to Sainsbury's for shopping although I have no idea where it is in relation to the canal. The house opposite the tow path must be owned by a Volkswagen enthusiast. I have counted at least thirteen vehicles, all of which are Volkswagens of one sort or another. His garden runs alnogside the canal for a hundred yards or so but is very thin. I think it must be impossible to get any of the vehicles out of his garden due to the congestion of vehicles. I must try to get some pictures of it at some time.

5th Grimes Bridge 5 miles

Richard visited and delivered eight five litre tubs of French red 'van du pays'.
I know that I will be taking a break from smoking at some time in the future and have decided that this will be when I run out of tobacco. I've just started the third pack of tobacco out of my last pack of ten pouches so this is likely to be in about fourteen weeks as I consume a pack a fortnight(ish).

6th Brinklow 2 miles

All engine dials and lights ceased to function during the journey. It turned out to be the 40 amp engine fuse. I did not know until this happened that there is a fuse built in to the engine wiring harness. I only discovered it by reading the engine manual that came with the boat. I rang Rose Narrow Boats and checked that they have some in stock, they have, so I walked along to them and purchased several. Didn't want to be caught out again.

11th

Went shopping in Rugby, caught the 585B which goes past the canal bridge at Brinklow, just 100 yards from where the boat is moored. It's not a proper bus stop but the driver will stop if you put your hand out. Richard visited. I have been using my fold up work benches as legs for the lathe up until now but I think I can make some detatchable legs. I have the design on paper- just need to implement it.

17th Brownsover facilities 4½ miles

A convenient place to moor up for a couple of weeks. Normally this is a 48 hour mooring but between November and March it becomes a 14 day mooring. Used the facilities and caught the bus into town to do the shopping. While I was there I booked an appointment with the optician for this coming Mpnday to assess my catarects. I am having real trouble navigating through tunnels.

22nd

Appointment for cataracts went well, I need both of them doing but they will only do one at a time (presumably in case one of them goes wrong!) I should be able to go online and select the location for the operation to take place once the referral comes through.

Hawthorn for the taking.
23rd Clifton 2 miles

Contractors are clearing the land in preparation for a new bridge over the canal, a road from here to Hillmorton and a housing estate covering a few square miles. They have piled all the hawthorn up in one place and it is just waiting to be collected. I'll keep an eye on it for future use.

30th Braunston 7½ miles 3 locks

Made use of the facilities. Caught the bus into Rugby to do some shopping but purchased a hot pasty from the Braunston Butcher as he makes a particularly good one. Shared fish and chips with D'fer for the evening meal as the chippy is walkable.
